NJ and PA credit union executives visit with legislators and regulators in Washington, DC

HARRISBURG, PA (September 21, 2022) — Credit union executives from New Jersey and Pennsylvania met with legislators and regulators this week to advocate on behalf of credit unions at its annual Hike the Hill.  On day one, credit union leaders heard from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), and Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) as well as U.S. House Financial Services Committee Member Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) and U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ).

The first day’s presenters included CFBP Director Rohit Chopra, who held a candid and free-flowing conversation with the group, answering questions and providing clarifications on the CFPB’s roles and how it plans to work with credit unions.

On day two, the group fanned across Capitol Hill visiting with 20 Congressional offices from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ).

“It was great to be back in person in Washington, DC, to inform our elected officials and regulators about the issues important to credit unions,” said Patrick Conway President and CEO of CrossState Credit Union Association.  “I want to thank all the credit union leaders who took the time to come to Washington, DC, and talk about the great work credit unions do in communities throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.”

CrossState piloted a new component to Hike the Hill in collaboration with the Cooperative Credit Union Association that allowed members of the media to interview credit union leaders and presenters live at Credit Union House.  Video clips of presenters can be made available upon request.
