NLCUP congratulates Credit Union Association of New Mexico for the naming of Juan Fernandez Ceballos as its new President and CEO

DURHAM, NC (March 11, 2021) — The National Association of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals (NLCUP) congratulates the Board of Directors of the Credit Union Association of New Mexico for the naming of Juan Fernandez Ceballos as its new President and CEO.

This is truly a milestone for the credit union movement as it represents the first time a Latino professional has been chosen to lead a state credit union league/association.

Given the growing recognition within the industry of the movement’s mandate to promote diversity, equity and inclusion and taking into account the increasing diversity of the nation, this welcoming development sends a powerful message that our industry is seriously embracing the DEI principles and moving towards to better reflecting the communities we serve.

At almost 50%, New Mexico has the highest Hispanic population as a percentage of the total population. Juan Fernandez Ceballos is an experienced credit union leader who’s uniquely qualified to lead the Credit Union Association of New Mexico into the future. We look forward to working with him, CUANM and its member credit unions to help increase access to affordable, responsible, and sustainable financial services for all.

NLCUP celebrates this historic recognition of the talent and contributions that Latino professionals make to the movement. We hope to see more opportunities become available for Latinos to serve in leadership positions to help propel the industry into an even higher phase of growth and relevance.

Juan Fernandez Ceballos
