Nussle: Nation’s credit unions are member-owned

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 23, 2015) — Jim Nussle, president and CEO of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), released a statement following National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chair Debbie Matz’s testimony before the House Financial Services subcommittee on financial institutions and consumer credit:

“I certainly hope that NCUA Chair Debbie Matz misspoke at the hearing today. If she didn’t, it’s outrageous that Chair Matz would tell Congress she does not believe credit unions represent their members under the respectful questioning of Representatives Scott and Mulvaney. I can’t believe I need to remind her that the nation’s credit unions are member-owned.

“We thank Chairman Neugebauer and Ranking Member Clay for holding today’s hearing with Chair Matz. We appreciate the subcommittee expressing its oversight authority of NCUA to ensure that credit union member resources are efficiently and appropriately used. It’s critically important that the agency’s activities are in the best interest of credit unions and their members. CUNA is fighting for budget transparency because it’s what our member credit unions demand.”
