NWCUA, member credit unions contribute $334K to Children’s Hospitals

NWCUA’s annual auction, held in collaboration with member credit unions, continues a Northwest legacy.

SEATAC, WA (June 26, 2018) — Eight Northwest Children’s Miracle Network hospitals received wagons full of good cheer, and substantial cash contributions totaling $334,421 from the region’s credit unions in recent months. The money was raised at the October “Run for the Roses” auction held at the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA) MAXX Convention last fall.

Since early spring, credit unions in each region fanned out to distribute the checks and wagons.

“Every dollar makes a difference in comforting children and their families, and in helping the hospitals to do their amazing work,” said Holly Miller, Project Manager for the NWCUA. “Our member credit unions hold events throughout the year to support their local children’s hospitals, and we are pleased to host the auction each year in collaboration with them.”

Credit Unions for Kids originated in the Northwest in 1986, when a group of Oregon and Southwest Washington credit unions began raising money for local children’s hospitals. Their model was adopted nationally ten years later, and Credit Unions for Kids has since donated more than $170 million to Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals.

“The support of our credit union partners has been critical to the funding of life-saving research, expansion of facilities, and charity care, which assures all kids receive treatment regardless of their families’ ability to pay,” said Chris Perry, Managing Director of Corporate Partnerships at CMN hospitals. “As one of the largest contributors among our corporate partners, credit unions in the Northwest has played a vital role in assuring all kids have access to the best healthcare available.”

The contributions made to the region’s CMN hospitals this year include:

  • Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center (Medford, OR)- $20,698.89
  • OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (Portland, OR) – $97,768.89
  • PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center (Eugene, OR) – $24,463.89
  • Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital (Salt Lake City, UT) – $21,068.89
  • Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital (Spokane) – $64,088.89
  • Seattle Children’s Hospital – $59,168.89
  • Luke’s Children’s Hospital (Boise) – $24,163.89
  • Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital (Yakima) – $22,998.89

The 2018 NWCUA auction theme will be, “New York, New York.” The date has been set for October 17, during MAXX Convention in Tacoma, WA.
