Orange County’s Credit Union to host Shred and e-Waste Day fundraising event benefiting Children’s Hospital of Orange County on April 20

Santa Ana-Based Credit Union Hosts Complimentary Shred and e-Waste Day Fundraiser for Members

SANTA ANA, CA (April 17, 2024)Orange County’s Credit Union, a Santa Ana-based financial services provider with more than 135,000 Members, will host a special Shred and e-Waste Day fundraising event on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at 1721 East Saint Andrew Place, Santa Ana, CA 92705. Held in partnership with Shred Confidential and California Electronics Recycler, the event will allow Members to safely recycle their unwanted documents and electronic waste while benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).

“By offering this Shred and e-Waste Day, we empower our Members to protect themselves from identity theft by securely shredding and discarding unwanted personal information documents. Additionally, we ensure that all materials are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner, furthering our dedication to sustainability and community wellbeing,” said Kathy Jumper, Chief Executive Officer at Orange County’s Credit Union. “Most importantly, this exclusive service makes a meaningful impact in the CHOC community. It’s not just about shredding documents or recycling electronics; it’s about coming together to support a cause that matters and making a difference in the lives of children and families in need.”

Members are encouraged to bring personal documents, including mail, old bank statements, paycheck stubs, credit cards, and similar items for secure shredding (up to two banker boxes per person). Additionally, electronic waste such as cell phones, televisions, computers, printers, hard drives, and other devices can be deposited for proper recycling. All accepted recycled materials will contribute to a cash donation benefiting the CHOC KidsCARE fund. This fund supports CHOC care teams in addressing the medical needs of children and families, from under-insured patients to the development of innovative cancer treatments.

Since 2011, Orange County’s Credit Union has been hosting Shred and e-Waste events exclusively for its Members, providing a secure and cost-free solution for disposing of sensitive personal information while supporting CHOC’s exceptional work. Last year, over 500 Members participated and the Credit Union was able to donate nearly $2,700 to CHOC after only three hours of collections. This initiative is part of the Credit Union’s mission to provide financial education, security, and community support to its Members.
