Pen Air strives to enhance lives through first quarter giving

PENSACOLA, FL (April 26, 2022) — Pen Air Federal Credit Union (Pen Air) strives to enhance the lives of those in the communities where we live, work and serve. A proud community partner since 1936, Pen Air is committed to continuing this philanthropic legacy through donations, volunteerism, and sponsorships.

Jeans for Communerosity®(J4C) is an annual employee-driven fundraising effort. In 2022, 12 beneficiaries were selected by Pen Air team members, each receiving $4,000. All funds are raised from a payroll deduction program, J4C days, and J4C t-shirt sales, then matched by the credit union.

First quarter recipients:

  • Council on Aging of West Florida, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that serves 2,200 seniors and their families in Escambia and Santa Rosa County by providing community based, in-home programs and services that enable seniors to live healthy, safe and independent lives in their own familiar surroundings.
  • America’s Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors(AHERO), a local nonprofit organization out of Alabama that connects Veterans with local communities by organizing outdoor events and social gatherings while healing the physical and psychological wounds of war and military service.
  • Gulf Coast Kid’s House, a children’s advocacy center serving Escambia County, Florida providing professionals with the resources needed for intervention, investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases under one child-friendly facility.

The power of these funds directly benefitted programs like Meals on Wheels, in-home care services, and the adult day care facility; provided transportation for severely wounded, injured and disabled veterans so they could receive fellowship and mentoring opportunities through recreational activities like fishing, golfing, music and more; and supported a new mental health position that offers help to families in immediate crisis until they’re able to receive trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy concerning suspected child abuse and trafficking situations. Outside of the dollars, each Pen Air employee receive five paid volunteer hours per month to collectively serve our communities. During the first quarter, team members provided approximately 952 volunteer hours across 55 organizations, such as Pace Athletics and Recreation Association, East Hill Christian School, Pensacola Humane Society, Booker T. Washington Theatre, and ReadyKids!

Additionally, Pen Air provided our Gulf Coast (Northwest Florida and Southeast Alabama) communities $71,595 dollars in sponsorships. Partnering organizations align within our focus areas of Financial Literacy, Health or Human Services, Local Chambers and Community Wellness programs. First quarter events ranged from the Center Ice Hero segment at the Pensacola Ice Flyers, the Enlisted Appreciation Breakfast with the Pensacola Navy League, and Annual Career Academy Luncheon for the Escambia and Santa Rosa County Schools Foundation.
