Pioneer WV Federal Credit Union’s no shave November facebook food drive was a great success!

(December 3, 2013) —  “Many companies use Facebook to continuously tout products & prices, but we really wanted to do something different so that people can see that we are human too.   Pioneer WV Federal Credit Union truly cares about its community and we really wanted to do something fun and interactive with our Facebook page this Thanksgiving season, so we came up with our very own spinoff of No Shave November,” said Shannon Bradley, VP of Member Experience with Pioneer WV Federal Credit Union.   Pioneer decided to use Facebook as a platform for an online food drive.   Nine (9) employees of Pioneer stepped up to for the challenge and decided they would not shave their beards until the end of November.  Pictures were posted weekly and Facebook fans could go out and vote for the best beard by liking the page, liking and commenting on the pictures and sharing the photos.   The contest went from November 1st through November 25th just in time for Thanksgiving.   Each interaction was worth one (1) non-perishable food item.  “We were extremely happy with the amazing amount of interaction that we received,” said Bradley.

“We were so overwhelmed with joy as we bought the canned goods for the Salvation Army’s Food Pantry and they were elated to hear what all the Facebook fans came together to do.   Their pantries are pretty much bare.  We were able to donate over 700 non-perishable food items to the Salvation Army.   We know the donations will go a long way to help the community and this is just the beginning for us!  We plan on creating more exciting community-driven social media contests to continue to get people involved and to understand what the credit union movement is all about!
