Point Breeze Credit Union donates $50,000 to Carroll Hospital’s Neonatal Couplet Care program

Donation will support the first couplet care program of its kind in Maryland

HUNT VALLEY, MD (November 5, 2018) — Point Breeze Credit Union has donated $50,000 to Carroll Hospital for its new Neonatal Couplet Care program.

Carroll Hospital, a LifeBridge Health Center, is expanding its Family Birthplace center to house the new Neonatal Couplet Care program. The Couplet Care program will allow  newborns who require specialized care and their mothers to remain together in a comfortable, monitored room throughout their hospital stay.

First developed by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, this model of care has numerous benefits, including reduced length of stay for the baby and strong maternal-infant bonding. To date, Carroll Hospital will be the only hospital in the state and just the second in the nation to adopt this model of care.

Carroll Hospital announced Point Breeze’s donation on Nov. 3 at its 59 th Annual Auxiliary Ball. Point Breeze made a $25,000 sponsorship donation for this year’s Ball to benefit the renovation, expansion and introduction of Couplet Care. In addition to the sponsorship, Point Breeze donated an additional $25,000 directly to the Carroll Hospital
Foundation to help fund the expansion.

“We are thankful for Point Breeze’s lead sponsorship of the Auxiliary Ball and even more thrilled that they decided to double their support with a major gift to the Carroll Hospital Foundation for the Neonatal Couplet Care program at The Family Birthplace. Their generosity is a testament to the community’s genuine interest in the well-being of
residents in and around the county. Through this incredible show of philanthropy, Point Breeze will make an enormous impact on the lives of babies and families in our community now and for future generations,” said Ellen Finnerty Myers, Chief Development Officer and Vice President of Corporate Development at Carroll Hospital. The expansion will add 9,000 square feet to The Family Birthplace and will include new patient rooms, a family room for parents and new operating rooms. The project is expected to be completed in 2019.

“At Point Breeze, we pride ourselves in being more than a reliable financial institution. We are a neighbor and community member first. With that, we are dedicated to helping our community prosper and are happy to support Carroll Hospital in its efforts to expand family services,” said Bernie McLaughlin, President and CEO of Point Breeze Credit Union. “Carroll Hospital is an integral part of our community and we are looking forward to seeing the greater impact that the new couplet care program will bring.”
