Quinnipiac University Student Selected as Vice President of Unbanking

University Senior to Serve as Ambassador for Connex Credit Union

North Haven, Conn. (October 8, 2012) – Connex Credit Union sent out a challenge earlier this year seeking a college student to become its Vice President of Unbanking. This unique position is a marketing and public relations internship where one lucky college student will help spread word of the credit union and their “Unbank” message to a younger audience. The call was answered by Lauren Dufour, a public relations major and sociology minor at Quinnipiac University.
The internship will run the course of the academic school year. As the Vice President of Unbanking, Dufour will be responsible for Connex Credit Union’s social media programs and content, assisting in the development of marketing programs and projects as well as participating in special events and grass-roots marketing efforts. Dufour will work within the Connex marketing team and assist with daily marketing functions.
“The VP of Unbanking really represents our connection with a younger audience and community,” said Dana Clark, Acting Vice President of Sales and Services for Connex. “Lauren’s primary responsibility will be helping to educate what the credit union difference is and gain a valuable, hands-on experience working in a marketing department.”

The Unbank campaign highlights the fundamental differences between credit unions and banks. In addition, the campaign taps into the public’s current frustration with traditional banks and emphasizes Connex’s commitment to the best interest of its members.

“We interviewed quite a few talented and smart candidates,” added Clark. “Lauren really stood out among the candidates. She possessed a very impressive resume of experience, enthusiasm and was very familiar in social media and marketing.”

“I was very excited when I found out that I was selected for the position,” said Dufour. “I’ve had several internships in the past and this opportunity as the Vice President of Unbanking can only add to my resume. I’m looking forward to working in a team environment that will help me strengthen my marketing and public relations skills. I’m sure this will be an experience I will learn a lot from.”
