Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union launches updated Android app
App includes industry-first widget for displaying account balances
LIVE OAK, TX and BURLINGTON, MA (November 4, 2013) — Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union recently launched an updated Android app for tens of thousands of its mobile banking users. In addition to the enhanced update, the app also features a new widget for easily displaying account balances.
The industry-first widget allows users to view their RBFCU account balances without having to launch the app or log in. The widget automatically refreshes itself around the clock, so it always has up-to-date balance information. Because it lives on the home screen of an Android device, the user can see his or her balance quickly and easily.
“The most common query our members make is for their account balances,” said Mary O’Rourke, Chief Information Officer. “We receive thousands of requests daily through our online and automated voice response systems. The auto-updating widget provides this information to the user without having to log in to the full app. Only a couple of very large, national banks have introduced a similar feature, and RBFCU is the first credit union to use Android’s home screen widget technology to provide this capability.”
The app was developed by Vertifi Software, a Burlington, Massachusetts based software company that specializes in state-of-the-art mobile banking applications.
“The widget lives on the home screen of the device, alongside other widgets the user might install for seeing the time, weather, news, sports scores, or any other timely information,” said Alan Bernstein, President of Vertifi. “Its refresh capabilities are very flexible inasmuch as balances can be updated on-demand, either by the user or by RBFCU sending a ‘push notification.’ Users have the option of disabling the widget altogether, and also customizing its refresh frequency.”
A new version of RBFCU Mobile for Apple iOS devices, including iPad, will also provide a ‘Check Balances’ feature without requiring login, and will be available to members soon.
