Realsec Announces Launch of Cryptosec RKL Server in North America

A Self-Contained Appliance, Cryptosec Automated Remote Key Loading (RKL) Is Compatible With All Major ATM Vendors, Ensuring Global Standardization for Personal eBanking

REDWOOD CITY, CA (June 25, 2013) Realsec, a leading secure vendor of cryptographic solutions worldwide, today announced the North American availability of the Cryptosec RKL Server. Realsec’s Cryptosec RKL server is an appliance for the automated remote loading of initial Master keys and key renewal into multivendor ATM networks used by commercial banks and credit unions. Compatible with all major ATM vendors, such as Diebold, NCR, Wincor and more, this system requires no software or hardware changes in host servers or changes in ATM application code.

Assuring the integrity of transferring and loading initial cryptographic keys to an ATM secure PIN PAD is central to the security of those ATM transactions that utilize public networks. The Cryptosec RKL fully automates this process, versus traditional costly and risky manual procedures, by employing advanced asymmetric cryptography and PKI certificates. The Cryptosec RKL ensures the integrity, confidentiality, and non-repudiation of key loading while dramatically lowering operating costs of the ATM fleet.

“Requirements from major payment card brands such as Visa and MasterCard state that an ATM’s Master keys must be renewed periodically or when keys had been compromised,” said Sebastian Muñoz, CEO of Realsec, Inc. “This renewal of Master keys was previously done manually by operators, in person, on each ATM. Realsec developed the first multi-vendor solution, Cryptosec RKL, that enables ATM network operators to update up to 7000 ATM Master keys per hour, with one single appliance, dramatically reducing response times in case of emergency, minimizing ATM time unavailable, and maximizing resource savings.”

The Cryptosec RKL incorporates Realsec’s industry leading hardware security module (HSM), Cryptosec, which provides optimal protection of transportation master keys. HSM-based remote key loading solutions deliver physical and logical protection that manual approaches cannot match.

Cryptosec RKL is sold as a product, not as a service, and would allow the end user to update their ATM’s keys as often as they wish, with no additional cost. Some current Realsec customers, such as HSBC, Sovereign Bank, Barclays Bank, Citibank, BBVA Compass and Banco Santander update their keys on a daily basis.

Key Highlights of the Realsec Cryptosec RKL Appliance include:

  • Support for all leading ATM manufacturers ensures global standardization
  • Eliminate the possibility of human error or criminal activity from the initial key upload
  • Significant savings compared to manual key uploading
  • Allows more frequent updates, making networks less prone to attack
  • Replace up to 7000 ATMs Master Keys per hour and per appliance
  • Automates and simplifies compliance reporting and auditing
  • Compatible with any core banking application being used by the bank. Integration with core banking application is performed through a web service app.

The flexibility and scalability of Cryptosec RKL enable ATM networks to growth at the fastest pace. By simply adding more appliances, ATM operators will able to handle the biggest ATM networks without troubles. Cryptosec RKL is currently used by some of the major Banks in the World, handling Key Loading processes for over 100,000 ATMs worldwide.

Dedicated to building customer trust in secure issuing and processing environments, Realsec is the financial industry’s ideal partner in advanced cryptographic solutions.
