Teams of employees from Redwood Credit Union (RCU) recently participated in three Human Race events held simultaneously in Sonoma, Marin and Mendocino counties on May 8, 2010. More than 80 volunteers from RCU, including employees, family and friends, walked or ran in the races, raising funds for a variety of local non-profit organizations. Sponsored by the counties’ Volunteer Centers, the Human Race invites participants to collect pledges and walk or run a 3K or 10 K course to raise money for the local non-profit of their choice.

At the Sonoma County Human Race, the RCU team carried colorful balloon displays and waved green and gold pompons, while cheering on other teams and participants. RCU’s youth account mascot, Reddy the Redwood accompanied the team, pausing to greet and take photos with local kids along the way. At the end-of-route marketplaces for the Marin and Sonoma County races, RCU volunteers handed out prizes to race participants and spectators.

“Redwood Credit Union is always excited to participate in the Human Race each year, as it brings such strong support from all over the community,” said Robin McKenzie, RCU Senior Vice President. “Although RCU supports and participates in numerous fundraising events throughout the year, the Human Race is unique in that it allows our staff to raise funds for whichever non-profit they are truly passionate about.”

In addition to voluntary support and the Credit Union’s corporate sponsorship, RCU staff collected monetary pledges and donations, bringing RCU’s collective contributions to more than $11,000.

Redwood Credit Union is committed to the communities it serves, and actively participates in a variety of non-profit and fundraising events including the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, National Make a Difference Day, the American Heart Association Heart Walk, United Way’s Day of Caring and many others.

RCU is a full-service financial institution serving the greater North Bay and San Francisco. RCU assets exceed $1.7 and membership has grown to nearly 150,000. For more information about Redwood Credit Union, please call (707) 545-4000 or 1 (800) 479-7928, or visit www.redwoodcu.org.
