Royal Credit Union (Royal) held its 60th Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 30, at Royal’s Corporate Center. Two board members were re-elected to three-year terms— Bill Blackburn and John Sackett.

  • Blackburn was elected to Royal Credit Union’s Board of Directors in 2005. He currently serves on the Finance Committee and Credit Oversight Committee. Prior to serving on the board, Bill was employed by Royal for nine years, with his final seven in business lending. He left Royal in 2001 to pursue an opportunity to own his own business.
  • Sackett has served on the board for over 40 years. He currently serves as Chairperson of the Audit Committee and serves on the Political Action Committee. John previously served as Chairperson of the board for 17 years and Treasurer for 10 years.

At the Reorganization Meeting, Tom Huffcutt was elected Chairman; Stuart Schaefer was elected Vice Chairman; Doug Olson was elected Treasurer; and Jennifer McDonough was elected Secretary.  John Sackett, Nancy Beltz, and Bill Blackburn serve as Directors.

In his Chairperson’s report, Huffcutt recognized that Royal’s Members are the reason for the credit union’s success and thanked them for creating a positive impact. Huffcutt shared he is proud of the value Royal brings to its Members and communities, and stated that the board places the utmost importance on ensuring that Royal remains a financially safe and sound institution. He asked that Members who are facing financial hardship or would like financial advice to help them through a challenge reach out to a Royal team member at one of our offices. Huffcutt shared Royal’s accomplishments over the past year, and below are a few highlights:

  • Royal team members facilitated 350 financial literacy lessons and reached 6,650 students.
  • Royal’s School $ense in-school credit unions hired over 300 student team members who completed over 15,000 transactions during the school year.
  • Royal had more than 2,500 high school students from 37 different schools participate in its Test Drive…Next Stop Reality program. These students experienced a real-life simulation of money and finances to gain a better understanding of what it takes to make it on their own and prepare for their future.
  • Royal launched Enrich, a free online financial education platform for current and future Members. Enrich offers a variety of tools, content, and courses in a personalized format that is accessible anytime, anywhere.
  • In 2023, the RCU Foundation contributed $820,000 to local communities, bringing the Foundations total commitment since it began in 2012 to over $9 million.
