RTN’s Walk Home 2019 raises funds and awareness for homeless teens and families

WALTHAM, MA (June 18, 2019) — Beautiful weather was the backdrop for RTN Federal Credit Union’s 9th annual Walk Home for the Homeless on June 9. Nearly 120 walkers, volunteers and staff participated in the 5K Walk events that took place simultaneously in three locations — Danvers Rail Trail, Dorchester Park and Waltham Common. Each Walk began with an Opening Program featuring remarks from local officials, and senior executives from the Credit Union and the Coalition.

Walk Home donations from members, staff, community organizations and business sponsors are collected through the RTN GoodWorks Foundation and donated to help homeless teens and families in Danvers, Dorchester and Waltham, and support the work of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless and its A Bed for Every Child Program.

So far, more than $19,000 has been raised through Walk Home 2019 and counting. There will be an official ceremony in September to give this year’s Walk Home funds to Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.

“We are proud that since 2011, Walk Home has donated more than $180,000. This has made it possible for hundreds of children growing up in poverty to have a bed of their own,” says Nicole James, RTN’s Senior Vice President of Retail Services, and Treasurer of RTN GoodWorks Foundation. “Walk Home demonstrates our Credit Union’s ongoing commitment to support the Mass. Coalition for the Homeless and help the homeless in local communities we serve.”
