San Francisco Federal Credit Union supports financial literacy

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 31, 2015) — San Francisco Federal Credit Union, a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution serving San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, has planned several initiatives throughout the month of April in support of Financial Literacy Month.

The Credit Union has already started fundraising internally through a Jeans Day campaign that allows staff to dress casually on April 1st in return for donations. In addition, all six locations will be placing donation cans in their branch to collect member donations.

Also, the Credit Union has planned financial workshops throughout the month, including several designed for youth. Some of the workshops include a Home Buying Workshop for first time buyers and a budgeting simulation for teens. In 2014, the Credit Union held 55 workshops throughout San Francisco and San Mateo Counties to over 730 youth and adults.

Finally, the Credit Union will be promoting complimentary services they offer throughout the year, as an additional resource for members. These services include BALANCE, a financial fitness program that was utilized by 1,450 members in 2014; as well as financial education and advising.

“While these services are always available to members, they are especially relevant and important during a month that recognizes financial literacy,” said Steven Stapp, President and CEO of San Francisco Federal Credit Union. “We want to give our members the tools they need to be successful in their financial lives.
