SDCCU honored with a Dora Maxwell Award for Stuff the Bus in the Credit Union National Association’s Awards

Award recognizes outstanding social responsibility efforts within the community

San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, is proud to announce that SDCCU has been honored with a state-level 2021 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award in the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Awards for our 2020 Stuff the Bus campaign. The state-level first place win will advance SDCCU to the national competition later this year.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award is presented to credit unions that demonstrate outstanding social responsibility projects within the community. Dora Maxwell was an early credit union pioneer, and was one of the original signers of CUNA's constitutions at Estes Park in Colorado. She worked as an organizer for the movement's trade association and held numerous volunteer positions at the local and national level.

SDCCU has partnered with the San Diego County Office of Education since 2015 on its SDCCU Stuff the Bus campaign to collect school supplies for students experiencing homelessness in San Diego County.  Over the years, thousands of students have been identified as homeless in San Diego County, with more than 20,000 school-aged children identified as homeless during the last school year. SDCCU’s community outreach objective has been to help students in need by removing barriers for learning.

“We are honored to have been selected for this prestigious award,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell. “This annual campaign, now in its seventh year has allowed us to assist families in need in our communities year after year. This past year was especially difficult for many due to the COVID-19 Pandemic causing significant financial hardship, and we were pleased to raise enough money to fulfill all district requests and help students begin the new school year ready to learn.”
