SECU to assist college-bound students on FAFSA Day February 28th

RALEIGH, NC (February 10, 2015)  State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) personnel will be available at all 254 Credit Union branches on Saturday, February 28th from 9:00 a.m. until noon to help students and their parents complete and electronically submit Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms.  SECU has been partnering with the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) and the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NCASFAA) since 2009 to provide assistance with the FAFSA, a requirement in consideration for all federal and most state financial aid for college, including scholarships and grants.  The program is free and open to students who plan to attend college in the 2015-2016 academic year.

The FAFSA Day event is being held in all 100 North Carolina counties, with access available through more than 300 participating site locations, including numerous college campuses and SECU branches.  The Credit Union will assist SECU members in any of its branches; however, in counties with FAFSA sites only at SECU, the Credit Union will assist both members and non-members.  SECU personnel will also provide FAFSA Day participants information regarding available scholarships, including the member-funded SECU Foundation “People Helping People” scholarships.  For a list of all site locations and to register for FAFSA Day, visit CFNC.org/FAFSAday or call 866-866-CFNC toll-free.

“The Credit Union’s participation in FAFSA Day is a wonderful example of SECU’s commitment to providing North Carolinians with access to educational resources that will help students and their families,” remarked Krista Loew, SECU Vice President of IRA Services.  “Last year, over 3,200 high school seniors across the State received assistance submitting the FAFSA, and we are pleased to continue serving as a co-sponsor with CFNC and NCASFAA to help students pursue their educational dreams.”
