Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $2,500 to Meals On Wheels

Donation to feed seniors and their pets

The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping Meals on Wheels meet an increased demand during Covid-19 by donating $2,500 to provide meals for low-income seniors and their pets. This donation will provide meals for 300 seniors and food for 240 pets.

Each weekday, Meals on Wheels volunteers prepare and deliver meals to more than 3,400 neighbors. Their AniMeals program provides meals for those seniors’ pets, helping them to have healthy companions.

“For many of our neighbors, the meals we deliver are their sole source of nutrition,” said Casey Parker, community outreach coordinator for Meals on Wheels. “The Security Services Charitable Foundation donation is helping us greatly as so many people have an increased need for assistance amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Meals on Wheels San Antonio was founded in 1977 by two San Antonio churches, St. John’s Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church.  Starting with five senior clients, they have since grown to serve nearly one million meals each year.

“Security Service is pleased to help Meals on Wheels serve neighbors in need,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We appreciate that aside from delivering critical nutrition to seniors, Meals on Wheels also provides much-needed social interaction during their deliveries which makes for healthier and happier lives.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
