Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $5,000 to A Little Help

Helping the elderly live comfortably in their own homes

SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 21, 2022) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to A Little Help in Denver, CO, for the purchase of volunteer landscaping supplies. The donation will provide a variety of tools for yard and home maintenance that volunteers can use to provide care for the elderly in the community.

“These tools will be used for spring and fall service seasons for nearly 700 seniors in the community for the next 3-4 years and support aging in place for hundreds of older Coloradans,” said Tanya Matthias, program director for A Little Help. “This generous donation from the Security Service Charitable Foundation is a gift that will allow us to expand our service to the elderly community.”

The charitable foundation’s donation will allow the organization to purchase tools such as rakes, pruners, clippers, shovels, brooms, squeegees, rags, buckets and ladders. The items will be used to carry out various household tasks such as maintaining front yards and gardens, cleaning and household chores.

“We want to ensure the elderly in our community have the ability to age peacefully and safely in their homes without the added stress of home maintenance,” said Marisela Rios, vice president of member service—Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We are grateful for the opportunity to support a wonderful organization like A Little Help that does so much to help hundreds of elderly individuals across multiple counties throughout Colorado.”

A Little Help was founded in 2005 by concerned neighbors who wanted to look after elderly members of their community. Driven by the Village Movement, volunteers perform vital services that elderly individuals may have trouble doing or can no longer do themselves. The organization’s mission is to strengthen community and intergenerational ties and help older adults thrive.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
