Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $5,000 to Hope & Home

Providing life skills training for teens leaving foster care

SAN ANTONIO, TX (April 5, 2022) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to Hope & Home (H&H) foster care services in Colorado Springs, CO. The donation will help to provide youth in need with real-life skills and healthy support systems, specifically through the H&H coffee shop.

“Teens in the foster care system are the most at risk for developing unhealthy and destructive habits,” said Jenna Opperman, marketing director for Hope & Home. “The life skills they learn by running the free coffee shop will help them gain the knowledge and experience to develop into working adults in the community.”

The charitable foundation’s donation will specifically help H&H’s initiative to encourage life development and emotional skills to their teen foster care program attendees. The funding will support H&H’s coffee shop-style storefront, a 100% free stand at the facility that benefits foster teens and their families.

“This coffee shop is a location where foster teens can connect with other youth that understand them, improve their interpersonal relationships, and gain valuable skills that prepare them for proper adult-life adjustment,” said Marisela Rios, vice president or member service—Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We are pleased to provide financial support for such a worthy cause that will ultimately help foster teens find the hope, success and happiness they need and deserve.”

Founded by concerned members of the Colorado Springs community, H&H is currently one of the largest, most dynamic child placement agencies in the state of Colorado. Over 3,200 children have found safe homes with H&H families, and over 400 children have been rescued from the foster care system and happily adopted.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
