Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $5,000 to Villa Maria

Donation to provide assistance for women in need

SAN ANTONIO, TX (October 29, 2020) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation is donating $5,000 to provide women at Villa Maria with clothing and fresh linens. Here, women who are homeless, alone, and without family; can transition from crisis to self-sufficiency while living within a safe, supportive, and spiritual community.

“Most women come to Villa Maria with only the clothes they have on,” said Isis Portillo, executive director for Villa Maria. “The generosity of the Security Service Charitable Foundation is allowing us to provide them with fresh clothing, towels, and bedding, to begin their healing journey towards independence.”

As a local agency, Villa Maria does not receive financial support from county, state, regional, or federal agencies. They rely solely on private funds to provide housing for homeless women who have nothing. Through the support or partners, they provide a “hacienda” style facility that houses 22 women at a time, helping an average of 63 women per year.

“Oftentimes, the first step in healing is providing basic needs like food and clothing,” said Marisela Molinar, vice president of member service—Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It is a simple but meaningful gift we are honored to support at Villa Maria as they work diligently to provide meals, transportation, and counseling resources for women who have been victims of domestic violence, struggling with mental health issues, or suffering from addiction.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
