SECU’s Tax Preparation Services Offers New “No Appointment” Approach!

Raleigh, NC – With an increasing number of members looking to SECU for assistance with tax preparation services, the Credit Union will again offer the no-cost IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and SECU’s own low cost tax preparation service.  And the 2013 tax season comes with a more convenient and efficient approach at SECU – no appointment necessary!

SECU members who want to take advantage of tax preparation services can simply   drop-off their tax documents at any of the Credit Union’s 246 branches statewide.  An SECU tax preparer will review the documents with the member and photocopy any needed records.  The tax return will be completed within three business days, reviewed and signed by the member, then e-filed.

Tax preparation services provided by the Credit Union through the IRS sponsored VITA program and SECU’s own tax preparation service have helped members save millions of dollars each year since 2007.  In 2012, SECU helped nearly 65,000 North Carolina taxpayers claim more than $86 million in refunds, $40 million in tax credits, and save over $8 million in tax preparation fees.

Tenesha Carter, SECU’s SVP of Tax Preparation Services, comments, “With the new ‘elimination of appointments’ method, we are providing more flexibility and hope to accommodate the increasing number of members who want to take advantage of our services.”
