Sister Broker-Dealers CUSO Financial Services and Sorrento Pacific Financial launch expansive online training center

Online program opens up professional development training to CFS/SPF financial advisors and sales assistants to improve standards in the financial institution investment program industry

SAN DIEGO (October 2, 2014) — Sister companies, CUSO Financial Services, L.P. (CFS) and Sorrento Pacific Financial, LLC (SPF), full-service broker-dealers and SEC Registered Investment Advisers providing customized investment and insurance solutions to financial institutions, have introduced a new Online Training Center that allows its financial advisors and sales assistants to improve their sales and administrative knowledge and skills without losing time out of the office.

The standardized, professional development training program consists of 15 live and interactive webinars and 38 recorded “on-demand” modules that range in length from 4-30 minutes. The program materials address both hard and soft skills to help financial professionals to better understand their clients’ needs, to empathize with clients about their goals and dreams, and to handle the administrative aspects of their jobs efficiently and effectively. Approximately 15 of the courses are required with the rest available as desired. Webinars, which are repeated frequently, are also archived for those who are unable to attend the live presentations.

Early feedback from advisors who are using the program is enthusiastic. According to Greg Leong, an advisor with Hawaii State Investment Services at Hawaii State Federal Credit Union, “Being an advisor for the last 15 years with other broker dealers, I have taken many training courses – but I have never seen a more organized training program. The informational training videos are awesome. I’m actually learning new things!”

Categories of topics include:

  • Administration through dataVISION, the companies’ electronic management and reporting system
  • Products, including annuities, MLCDs,  insurance and advisory products
  • Regulations and compliance
  • Research tools
  • Sales with a relationship focus

Amy Beattie, COO of CFS and SPF, says, “All our courses are designed to help our investment program teams improve their productivity and learn new skills, whether they are new to the practice or experienced producers. Since the Training Center launch this summer, we are already finding certain courses to be quite popular, including our monthly sales assistant trainings that are pulling in almost 100 people monthly, and our best-selling ‘Going for the GOLD!’ interviews that feature best practices from our top-producing Gold Pacesetters. We are gratified that our financial teams are so enthusiastic about gaining this education.”

Program managers at financial institutions are encouraged to use these courses in a number of ways: by assigning them to individual advisors who need more training in a specific area, assigning them to new hires, or assigning a module to an entire team, then discussing it at a subsequent sales meeting. The companies will continue to add new and engaging content as the year progresses.
