SkyPoint FCU celebrates 55 years with purposeful commitment to members, partners, and the community

Such longevity exemplifies SkyPoint’s strength in anticipating and acting on their members’ continually changing needs.

GERMANTOWN, MD (August 8, 2023) SkyPoint Federal Credit Union (SkyPoint) celebrates their 55th anniversary with pride in their history, and focus on their near- and long term future goals.

 

Continued commitment to members first and strong community development

 “SkyPoint is dedicated to making banking simple and accessible to all. It does this by improving the financial well-being of our members and their communities by providing information, education, products, and tools needed to succeed,” said SkyPoint CEO Carla Decker. “Originally the Montgomery County Employees Federal Credit Union, SkyPoint more recently obtained the certification of Community Development Financial Institution. The new name and designation give us an even greater emphasis on meeting each member and potential member where they are in their financial journeys, particularly those who are underserved or marginalized.”

 

Initiated business products and services

 “Many of our members are entrepreneurs and owners of small businesses who enrich their communities but are typically overlooked by traditional financial institutions. To meet this need, this year we launched business solutions, which includes business accounts, loan products, and solutions to help businesses sustain their financial security and reach their goals,” Decker continued. “It was an ambitious undertaking for us, both to plan the full range of services and execute a multi-phased rollout, but we couldn’t be more pleased to enable local businesses to grow and contribute to the prosperity of their neighborhoods. It is rewarding to business owners the convenience of handling their personal and professional finances in one place.”

 

Balancing technology with in-person interaction

 “We continue to provide and invest in convenient digital services to access account information, perform financial transactions, and communicate with us,” Decker said, “but we are also balancing that with ensuring we have knowledgeable and expert staff who are passionate about helping our members who prefer in-person financial services or advice.”

 Knowing how vital the credit union’s staff is to deliver its objective of making banking simple for all, SkyPoint is committed to its team of employees, providing the training and tools necessary so that each is an expert in its role.
