Task force to review CUNA system governance, structure

How support system for credit unions can evolve with industry to be assessed

WASHINGTON, DC (September 5, 2014) — A 12-member group made up of credit union leaders – including credit union CEOs, state league presidents, a volunteer at a credit union, and a CEO who represents a credit union not affiliated with CUNA – will study CUNA’s structure and governance and make recommendations to the association’s Board of Directors, perhaps as early as next spring.

CUNA Chairman Dennis Pierce announced the appointment of the task force today.

The deliberations of the task force will be facilitated by a consultant retained by CUNA: Rick Goldstein, founder and president of Kensington Consulting Group, based in the Washington, D.C. area. According to CUNA Chairman Dennis Pierce, Goldstein and Kensington have long experience in dealing with organization design and process improvement for a number of organizations, including national trade associations – such as the American Gas Association, American Society of Anesthesiology, American Diabetes Association — and leading companies, such as IBM, Nextel, GE, Ciena, Pulte, Marriott, T Rowe Price and others.

“Kensington and Rick will bring to the task force members the information and concepts they need to help consider what sort of system structure and governance options are available to credit unions, and what makes sense going forward to meet the evolving needs of the movement,” Pierce said. “Ultimately, the task force will make its own recommendations to the CUNA Board for consideration, based on the information Rick provides, and the discussion he facilitates.”

Pierce added that CUNA’s shared strategic vision of “Americans choose credit unions as their best financial partner” will play an essential role in guiding the task force’s development and proceedings.
