TCU donates $30,000 to Indiana food banks

SOUTH BEND, IN (April 22, 2020) — To help local food banks meet the increased demand for assistance during the coronavirus pandemic, Teachers Credit Union will provide $10,000 to each of three Indiana food banks: Food Bank of Northern Indiana in South Bend, Northwest Indiana Food Bank in Merrillville, and Gleaners Food Bank in Indianapolis.

“These funds help meet an immediate need,” TCU President and CEO Paul Marsh said. “The food banks that we’re supporting serve their communities on a daily basis. The strain on them, and on the people who need them, requires a community response equal to the challenge.”

TCU selected these local organizations to maximize the impact we can have in the communities we serve. The food banks are able to direct donated funds to purchase needed items at the best possible cost to serve the largest number of people.

“We have partnerships with the food banks through events like our annual Day of Giving,” Marsh said. “We know first-hand the difference that they make, and, in this unprecedented time, we want to do our part to help them fill in the gaps for so many who suddenly need their services.”

TCU was founded during the Great Depression and has a long history of supporting its members and the community during challenging times.

“The best way to honour the communities we serve is to help people most affected,” Marsh said. “TCU and our team members want to assist these charitable organizations that are now seeing hundreds of people each day.”
