ARLINGTON, TEXAS (August 9, 2022) — The Texas Trust Gives Foundation awarded $65,000 in grants to nine North Texas school districts. The grants range from $1,500 to more than $10,000.

The Texas Trust Gives Foundation was founded to touch hearts and change lives by supporting organizations that improve the well-being of the community and help build brighter financial futures.

The districts receiving grants were Arlington, Athens, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Grand Prairie, HEB, Lewisville, Mansfield, and Midlothian.

Coverage Briefing
The Texas Trust Gives Foundation awarded $65,000 in grants to nine school districts in North Texas. Some districts used the funds for school supplies that were given to students at back to school events.

Grants were issued for a variety of essential school needs ranging from shoes and school supplies, a mobile library, teacher wellness care initiatives and leadership training, band instruments for lower socio-economic students and back-to-school activities and events.

Mansfield ISD received $10,000 to purchase hundreds of new shoes that will be given away to students in need during the district-wide back-to-school bash in August.

DeSoto ISD also received a $10,000 grant to be used to purchase wind instruments, such as clarinets, flutes, and saxophones, for the Fine Arts Department. The instruments will enable disadvantaged youth to participate in middle school band programs at no cost.

Lewisville ISD received $7,500 to purchase necessary shelving and storage units for its STEM academies, and send up to 30 high school students to the inaugural Junior Leadership Flower Mound. Over the course of eight months, Leadership Flower Mound will teach the students leadership and workforce concepts that will prepare them for future careers.

A $1,500 grant was issued to Athens ISD for its mobile library. The grant will allow the district to buy additional books for all grade levels for the mobile unit. The mobile library is an extension of the school-based libraries, but is used during the summer and holidays to give students year-round access to books, as well as reliable and fast internet service.

“These grants equip schools to do more in order to provide exceptional educational opportunities,” said Washima Huq, Executive Director of the Texas Trust Gives Foundation. “The need to help students goes well beyond the classroom, as evidenced by what school districts are having to do to ensure children have the basic necessities to facilitate a positive learning experience.”

Any school district within Texas Trust’s markets is eligible to apply for its annual school district grants. Applications for the next grant cycle for school districts will open in spring 2023.
