The ATM Industry Association and IPayments Forum Launch WikiATM.com

SIOUX FALLS, SD and NEW YORK, NY (April 5, 2013) – ATMIA and IPayments Forum have launched WikiATM.com to act as a repository of global ATM data. The purpose of WikiATM.com is to create a definitive body of knowledge on all aspects of the ATM and to promote cross-channel integrated payments with the ATM serving as the hub for financial self-service retail delivery. WikiATM.com will act as an industry best practices portal with members only access. Participation is open to all industry professionals but they must be registered as a member.

A wiki (pronounced Wik-ee) is a website which allows its users to add and modify content via a web browser using a simplified markup language or a rich-text editor. Wiki means quick in the Hawaiian language. A wiki promotes meaningful topic associations between different pages by making page link creation intuitively easy and showing whether an intended target page exists or not. A wiki is not a carefully crafted site for casual visitors. Instead, it seeks to involve the visitor in an ongoing process of creation and collaboration that constantly changes the Web site landscape.  The wiki invites all users to edit any page or to create new pages within the wiki website, using only a plain-vanilla Web browser without any extra add-ons.

Why WikiATM.com? There exists a need for open standards and best practices for integrated cross channel interoperability, and because the payments industry is at a cross roads with new emerging electronic payments options and potentially disruptive technologies that threaten to marginalize traditional payments channels. Consumers have more payments options than ever and mobility is driving demand for convergence of these payment methods. Traditional banking is giving way to cross-channel integration of financial services and the ATM is the natural hub for this convergence. This is because the ATM brand stands for fast, convenient, and secure transactions. Whether it is for cash access or other self-service options the ATM offers a ubiquitous retail delivery channel.
