Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union to host Community Appreciation Event and Shred Fest

TICONDEROGA, NY (September 30, 2013) — To conclude their annual Credit Union Week celebration, the Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union (TFCU) will host their 1st annual Community Appreciation Event and 4th annual Shred Fest on Saturday, October 19th.  The events are free and will take place from 1-4 PM at the Best Western Plus of Ticonderoga.

Community Appreciation Event – a free carnival-themed event featuring family friendly activities at the Best Western Plus of Ticonderoga from 1-4 PM. Activities include a bounce-house for kids, Penelope-the-Clown to provide free face-painting and balloons, a chance to win prizes by spinning the prize wheel, information about TFCU’s products and services including youth savings accounts, online & mobile banking demo, loan referral program and new member registration.  TFCU members are encouraged to bring a friend or family member who is not yet a TFCU member to the event.

“We’re happy to provide a family-friendly event as a means of giving back to the community,” said Shawn Hayes, TFCU President and CEO. “TFCU members and non-members alike are invited to partake in the activities and learn more about the credit union.”

Shred Fest – a free paper-shredding event to increase public awareness of identity theft prevention.  Community members are invited to bring their confidential documents to be shredded on site in a mobile shredding truck at the Best Western Plus of Ticonderoga during event hours of 1-4 PM. Shredding documents containing personally identifying information before throwing them away is one of the most important ways consumers can prevent identity theft. Paper, folders, envelopes, check registers, paper bound by staples, paperclips and spiral binding can be shredded, however documents bound with metal binder clips cannot.  Donation of a non-perishable food item in exchange for the free service is suggested. Proceeds from the recycling of documents shredded at the event will be donated to local food pantries.
