Ticongeroga Federal Credit Union celebrates credit union week with free community appreciation event, shred fest and bbqs

TICONDEROGA, NY (November 12, 2013) — Hundreds of Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union (TFCU) members and others from the community participated in the annual Credit Union Week Celebration, October 15-19. This year’s celebration included three Member Appreciation BBQs, the Credit Union’s 4th Annual Shred Fest and a carnival-themed Member Appreciation Event.

“Credit Union Week provides an opportunity for our staff to interact with our members on a different level and give back to the community,” said Shawn Hayes, TFCU President and CEO. “It’s a great example of the credit union difference.”

Community Appreciation Event – a family friendly, carnival-themed event took place Oct. 19th at the Best Western from 1-4:00 pm. The event included a bounce-house, Penelope-the-Clown, prize wheel, photo booth and credit union product and service information booths.  Attendees were encouraged to visit the information booths and spin the prize wheel. One attendee, Dawn Davis was randomly selected to win an iPad.

Shred Fest – a free paper shredding event, aimed at increasing public awareness of identity theft prevention, produced over 5600 lbs. of shredded paper, resulting in a $443.10 donation to be split among three area food pantries. The public was invited to bring their personally identifying documents to shred on site in a mobile shredding truck, located in the Best Western parking lot from 1-4:00 pm, Oct. 19th.  Non-perishable food donations were accepted in exchange for free paper-shredding and divided among three area food pantries.

Member Appreciation BBQs – Hundreds of free lunches were served by Credit Union Staff from 11-2:00 at each branch, Wednesday-Friday of Credit Union Week.

International Credit Union Week commemorates the important role that credit unions around the world play in their communities. Differing from banks – credit unions do not pay dividends to outside shareholders.  Rather, earnings are returned to their members in the form of lower loan rates, higher interest rates on deposits and lower or no transaction fees.
