TMG CEO Shazia Manus recognized for public engagement by Iowa State University’s Department of Economics

DES MOINES, IA (November 14, 2016) — Since joining payments processor TMG as CEO in 2011, Shazia Manus has been named a Woman to Watch, one of the most influential women in payments and a finalist for the Stevie Awards Female Executive of the Year. Most recently, Manus received recognition from her alma mater, Iowa State University (ISU).

On Oct. 27, 2016, ISU recognized Manus’ commitment to driving economic growth in the financial services industry with its Department of Economics Public Engagement Award.

ISU’s Public Engagement Award is given to one distinguished individual each year. Manus was presented with the award by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at its annual Honors and Awards Ceremony at the ISU Alumni Center. The ceremony took place during ISU’s Homecoming Week, which fittingly celebrated the theme “Leave Your Legacy” this year.

Manus began her academic journey at ISU in 1997 after transferring from Bangladesh’s University of Dhaka. A year later, she received her degree in economics. During her professional career, Manus has actively engaged with her alma mater on multiple fronts. In 2009, she partnered with ISU and Dr. Tahira Hira, member of the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy, to organize a listening forum with statewide leaders gathering insights on how to advance financial education efforts. In addition, Manus has served as a board associate for the Finance Committee of the ISU Alumni Association. She has also participated in the Leadership in Action program for the ISU College of Business and the ISU College of Human Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council.

A passionate advocate for the advancement of more women in leadership positions, Manus serves as a mentor for several young professionals. She believes her own experiences present a calling for her to help others.

“The notion of people helping people has been a staple in my life, not only because of the help I’ve received along the way but for the impact helping others has on our businesses, our relationships and our world,” said Manus.

Prior to joining TMG, Manus served as the CEO of Greater Iowa Credit Union, where she engineered a significant turn-around of the institution and led a multi-million dollar business acquisition. During her five-year tenure with TMG, she led record growth for the payments processor, which now services seven of the 13 largest credit unions in the U.S. Manus is active in the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) Global Women’s Leadership Network, which provides leadership development and resources for women leaders around the world. She also serves on the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Payments Policy Subcommittee and is frequently sourced by industry event organizers and media for her insights on the rapidly changing financial services industry.

Manus’ leadership goes beyond the financial services industry, as she has been actively involved with a number of business and community service organizations in central Iowa throughout her professional career. These include the Mercy Medical Center Board, Ames Public Library Board, United Way of Story County Women with Initiative, Rotary Club of Ames, Iowa College Student Aid Commission and Ames Economic Development Commission.

“With more than 60,000 living alumni, it is challenging for us to select award winners each year. We are extremely proud to celebrate these individuals’ diverse accomplishments,” said Beate Schmittmann, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, in the university’s online announcement of the awards.
