Todd Sharkey named new Affinity Plus vice president of business services

ST PAUL, MN (July 18, 2018) — Todd Sharkey has been named new vice president of business services at Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union.

In his role, Sharkey will revamp Affinity Plus’ business services program and develop a road map for the future, focused on the needs of the credit union’s membership, officials said.

Sharkey joins Affinity Plus with 12 years of experience in various roles in commercial and business banking at Sunrise Banks and Associated Bank. He said it’s “incredibly exciting” to play a role in the revitalization of the communities that Affinity Plus serves.

“It’s fun to see new businesses get off the ground and really start to grow, succeed and thrive,” he said. “To assist that, Affinity Plus has an incredible ability to do things that can really help members. We can be creative and develop different, unique and tailored products that fit their needs.”

Affinity Plus currently offers commercial and small business checking, which includes EMV-equipped debit cards; business savings accounts; and merchant card services.

In the near future, Affinity Plus will provide lending services to meet the needs of existing and future members, including term equipment and real estate loans; revolving lines of credit; and business credit cards.

“Commercial lending is a great way for Affinity Plus to diversify the portfolio while serving members who also want to have their business relationships with us,” Sharkey said. “Not growth for the sake of growth.”

Sharkey is spending time visiting branch communities and prioritizing the many business services opportunities for Affinity Plus. He also has a strong passion for education – both with employees and members.

“I want to ensure that we understand our members’ plans for the future, and that they understand the implications of their financial decisions,” Sharkey said. “In that way, a business banking relationship can truly be a partnership.”

Corey Rupp, senior vice president of Lending, said business banking is important to Affinity Plus members and will play an important role in the credit union’s future.

“Todd’s depth of experience, his passion to get to know businesses and make members successful, and his high level of integrity and care are key attributes to help us reach our goals,” Rupp said.

Sharkey has a bachelor’s degree in economics and financial management from the University of Minnesota-Morris, and a master’s degree in applied economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He has been a member of the Risk Management Association for five years, and he volunteers as a Twin Cities school board advisory committee member. Sharkey also spends time mentoring individuals who aspire to be credit analysts.
