Top regulators, congressional leaders, join NAFCU’s 2016 Congressional Caucus lineup

WASHINGTON, DC (September 15, 2016) — Assistant Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Office of Servicemember Affairs Holly Petraeus, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., have joined the distinguished list of speakers confirmed for the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU2016 Congressional Caucus, scheduled Sept. 18-21 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.

Petraeus has led CFPB’s Office of Servicemember Affairs since 2011. Petraeus’s office partners with the Pentagon to see that military families receive strong financial education; to monitor complaints from military families and responses to those complaints by the CFPB and other agencies. Petraeus has been a featured speaker on several NAFCU webcasts focused on servicemember issues and has previously addressed NAFCU’s Defense Credit Union Summit.

Brady previously chaired the Ways and Means subcommittee on health. He took the full committee’s chairmanship last November, when then-Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., rose to the position of House speaker.

Peters joined the Senate in 2015 after having served three terms in the House, where he cosponsored NAFCU-backed legislation to increase the statutory credit union member business lending cap. He serves on the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee and the Joint Economic Committee.

These individuals join a distinguished roster of speakers slated for NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, including:

  • Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray;
  • National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board Chairman Rick Metsger;
  • Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights and Federal Courts and the Commerce Subcommittee on Space, Science and Competitiveness;
  • Rep. Sandy Levin, D-Mich., ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee;
  • Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., member of the Senate Banking Committee;
  • Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., member of the Senate Banking Committee; and
  • Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee.

NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, the association’s credit union lobbying event of the year, brings hundreds of credit union leaders to Washington to talk about the industry’s vital issues, visit with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and hear from prominent congressional and financial industry leaders. The Congressional Caucus is open to NAFCU members and nonmembers.
