Unitus Community Credit Union hosts 87th annual meeting, announces board election results

Members offered more inclusive opportunities to engage with credit union leadership and Board of Directors in annual report to membership

PORTLAND, ORE (March 25, 2024) — Unitus Community Credit Union held its 87th Annual Membership Meeting, celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of 2023. Once again, the credit union held the meeting virtually so more members could attend. The inclusive meeting production included on-screen graphics, reports to the membership, and live interpretation in both Spanish and American Sign Language.

In his report to the membership, Unitus’ President and CEO, Steven Stapp, addressed the continued challenges in the global economy. He highlighted that these challenges did, however, provide new opportunities for members with improved savings rates through Certificates of Deposits and the Unitus Rewards program. Mr. Stapp explained Unitus’ net worth ratio stands at 9.76%, well above the 7.0% standard for a well-capitalized credit union. While he reported on several significant accomplishments in 2023, employee engagement in the communities Unitus serves is a source of pride.

“With nearly 1,800 employee volunteer hours, we far exceed our peers in community service,” beamed Mr. Stapp. “This is an average of six hours per employee. Our community development efforts make meaningful change here, and around the world. None of this would be possible without our members, so thank you for your continued partnership.”

Board Chair, Matthew Mičetić, addressed members during the meeting, detailing how the strategic priorities of “preserve and protect” have ensured Unitus avoids unnecessary risk and remains a financially secure credit union.

“As we preserve and protect our financial position over the next year, we will be working hard to help our members do the same,” assured Mr. Mičetić. “We aim to foster economic empowerment for individuals and families in the communities we serve.”

In his remarks, Audit Committee Chair, John Pierce, explained the audit process to members. The Credit Union engaged with the independent accounting firm, Moss Adams, LLP, to conduct the 2023 financial audit. “Based on reports and information received, the Audit Committee’s opinion is that Unitus Community Credit Union’s financial operations and system of internal controls are sound,” reported Mr. Pierce.

Board election results were announced during the Annual Meeting. Tiffini Mueller was re-elected by acclamation for a three-year term. Member Denetta Monk ran unopposed and was elected by acclamation for a three-year term.
Presented in the Annual Meeting were the 2023 Annual Report, the 2023 Community Impact Report, the Audit Committee Report, all available in English and Spanish. A video summary of Unitus’ accomplishments in 2023 was also presented to members.

Unitus plans to host a hybrid meeting in 2025 at the new Unitus Business Center – Tigard. The meeting will build upon the inclusive technology, accessibility, and language offerings for deeper member engagement.
