Unitus, Northwest CUs raise $25,000 for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital with benefit concert
PORTLAND, OR (August 17, 2018) — Unitus hosted a benefit concert at Unitus Plaza, raising $25,000 in collaboration with Menashe Properties and other credit unions to support OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, one of America’s leading children’s hospitals.
The event took place Thursday August 9, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. to help Doernbecher raise awareness and fund research for children facing cancer and serious illness. The evening featured remarks from a very special guest, one of the hospital’s young patients. The concert was headlined by Hit Machine, a high-energy, five-piece band that plays uniquely curated setlists featuring the biggest hits from a wide range of musical eras.
“As a Northwest credit union, it is not only our responsibility but our privilege to support one of the most impactful children’s hospitals in the nation,” said Steve Stapp, Unitus President and CEO. “In addition to their outstanding patient care, fundraisers like these with our fellow credit unions help the hospital conduct the critical research they need to find breakthrough cures and treatments for young members of our community.”
Unitus collaborated with other northwest credit unions to raise the funds through the Credit Unions for Kids program. OnPoint Credit Union, iQ Credit Union, Advantis Credit Union, and NW Priority Credit Union all made donations. Menashe Properties, owners of Unitus Plaza, also made a donation. All eventgoers who donated during the event received a “badge of honor” sticker commemorating their contribution.
PDX Sliders provided gourmet fare for all registered attendees. In addition to on-site cooling misters, guests and passersby were treated to complimentary Pacific Perks ice cream treats and New York Seltzer water to beat the heat. As part of the festivities, attendees took their picture under a tent featuring a Credit Unions For Kids-inspired backdrop, and snapped their own pictures using a special Snapchat photo filter created just for the event. The benefit concert continued a long partnership between Unitus and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital which frequently sees Unitus hosting fundraisers to support the hospital.
