Utah’s Credit Union Association names new board executive committee

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (May 1, 2023) — Utah’s Credit Union Association, a membership organization that serves Utah credit unions, organized its new board executive committee following its annual business meeting, last week.

The new executive committee members are: Shane London, president of Deseret First Credit Union, as Chair, Tammy Phillips, president of Varex Credit Union, as Vice Chair and Thayne Shaffer, president of America First Credit Union, as Secretary.

Former Chair, Sterling Nielsen, of Mountain America Credit Union, just finished serving two years as chair of the board.

“Many thanks to Sterling and the former board for their dedicated time to help the Utah credit union industry thrive and grow,” said UCUA’s president, Scott Simpson.

During the business meeting, three board members were reelected by the general membership: Shane London, president of Deseret First Credit Union; Dean Hirabayashi, president of National JACL Credit Union; and Todd Adamson, president of Cyprus Credit Union.

The Utah Credit Union Association consists of 11 directors that work or volunteer at member Utah credit unions and is directed by the executive committee, which consists of the chair, vice chair, and secretary. Directors are elected to three-year terms in 5 different categories:

Categories for 2023:
• At-large (credit unions of any asset size) – 3 seats
• Credit unions with under $131 million in assets – 2 seats
• Credit unions with assets between $131 million and $524 Million – 2 seats
• Credit unions of more than $524 million in assets – 3 seats
• Credit unions with more than $5.2 billion in assets – 1 seat

The dollar amounts of the asset categories are adjusted annually, based on the overall growth rate of Utah’s credit unions over the last three years. The board meets eight times annually.
