Vitter, Clyburn, Clay, Sinema and Laster added to NAFCU 2015 Congressional Caucus lineup

WASHINGTON, DC (September 4, 2015)Sen. David Vitter, R-La., Reps. James Clyburn, D-S.C., William Lacy Clay, D-Mo., Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., and National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Director of the Office of Consumer Protection Gail Laster have been added to the growing list of distinguished speakers confirmed to address the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU2015 Congressional Caucus, scheduled Sept. 14-17 in Washington.

Vitter is a member of the Senate Banking Committee and chairman of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee. He also serves on the Senate Environment and Public Works and Judiciary committees. 

Clyburn is the assistant democratic leader of the U.S. House of Representatives. As the number three Democrat in the House, Clyburn is the leadership liaison to the Appropriations Committee, one of the Democratic Caucus’ primary liaisons to the White House. He is also chair of the recently formed House Democrats’ Democratic Outreach & Engagement Task Force.

Clay is a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and is the ranking member on the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee. He also serves on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Sinema is a member of the House Financial Services Committee and lead democratic co-sponsor of NAFCU-backed H.R. 2287, the “National Credit Union Administration Budget Transparency Act,” which would require NCUA to provide notice of a public hearing on its budget and invite comments on it.

As director of the office of consumer protection at NCUA, Laster is in charge of the agency’s fair lending, consumer protection, and field of membership programs and policies.

These individuals join a distinguished roster of speakers at NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, including Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., both the U.S. House Chief Deputy Majority Whip and vice chairman of the House Financial Services Committee; Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator of the Small Business Administration; and more.

NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus is the association’s credit union lobbying event of the year, bringing hundreds of credit union representatives to Washington to learn about and meet with lawmakers on the key issues affecting them and their consumer-members. The Congressional Caucus sponsors include NAFCU Services Corporation, MasterCard, CUNA Mutual Group, FHLBank Atlanta, Geezeo, and Triad Financial Services. It is open to NAFCU members and nonmembers.
