West Region Chapter of African American Credit Union coalition debuts

SNELLVILLE, GA (September 18, 2019) — The African American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) just launched a West Region Chapter headed by SchoolsFirst FCU Senior Vice President Organizational Performance & Strategic Planning Kevin J. Martin.

The AACUC is a non-profit organization of professionals and volunteers whose mission is to increase diversity within the credit union community through advocacy and professional development.

The West Region Chapter’s mission will closely align with that of the national organization, including promoting community engagement and improving diversity at all levels of the credit union movement including boards, CEOs, staff, and business partners. In addition, the Chapter plans to create a network of professionals who will work together and have a common purpose. It also wants to engage all age groups, particularly black Millennials.

“We are excited to establish the first AACUC chapter on the west coast and look forward to engaging new members in the 12 western states and contributing to the national dialogue on how to further the movement’s inclusive service focus,” Martin said.

“The Board of Directors and I are extremely pleased that the AACUC West Coast Chapter has been formed,” said AACUC President and CEO Renée Sattiewhite. “The leadership of the West Coast Chapter consists of highly engaged professionals in the credit union industry, who have a passion for credit unions, their members, and a heart for helping people.  We are fortunate that they will be leading the Chapter.”

The West Region’s leadership team is comprised of Martin, Vice President Tonja Wheatley (California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues); 2nd Vice President Harold Roundtree (UNCLE CU); Secretary Ashley Franklin (SchoolsFirst FCU); Treasurer Tony Kitt (Plexcity); Parliamentarian Shannon Stewart (Southland CU);  Membership Officer (Millennials) Miranda Pierfax (USC CU); and Operations Officer Abiy Selassie (SchoolsFirst FCU).
