Westview Middle School, A+FCU plan Mad City Money, over 280 students participate

AUSTIN, TX (April 28, 2015) — On Monday, May 4, Pflugerville ISD’s Westview Middle School and

A+ Federal Credit Union (A+FCU) are teaming up to introduce budgeting and money management skills to 280 eighth grade students during an interactive financial simulation called Mad City Money. The event is scheduled from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Westview campus, 1805 Scofield Lane, near Metric Blvd. and Parmer Lane.

Upon entering Mad City, students will be able to experience “real life” scenarios and the financial impact that goes along with getting a job, having kids, buying a house and a car, shopping for groceries and clothing, paying for daycare, and learning about wants vs. needs.

Over 100 volunteers, including A+FCU employees, Westview Middle School teachers and staff, and Connally High School students, will serve as merchants and helpers during the event. Students may also visit the Mad City Credit Union for additional assistance from A+ employees.

“I am awfully excited about the opportunity that Mad City Money will provide our students,” said Westview Middle School Principal Kermit Ward. “I have often said that the missing element in most schools today is teaching the entire child. The Mad City Money program gets us closer to teaching the entire child by introducing them to financial literacy.”

“We are excited to partner with Westview Middle School and bring the Mad City Money simulation to so many students,” said A+FCU CEO Kerry A. S. Parker. “It’s our hope that the students will draw upon this interactive experience to make sound financial choices in the future.”

Please note: We encourage the media to stop by and observe the Madness!

A+ Federal Credit Union has 19 Austin area locations, over $1 Billion in assets, and more than 120,000 members that include not only educators, students, and their families, but other members of the community as well. To find out more, visit the website at aplusfcu.org.
