Whitefish Credit Union achieves $2 billion in assets

WHITEFISH, MT (August 30, 2021) — Whitefish Credit Union (Whitefish CU) announced that it reached a new milestone, exceeding $2 billion in total assets earlier this summer. This achievement for Montana’s largest credit union comes during its 87th year of service.

The credit union attributes its growth to its strategic planning and focus on providing exceptional value for its members. Last year, Whitefish CU expanded its services by improving its online loan application and launching a new online membership application, which helped contribute to nearly 2,700 net new accounts opened last year. The credit union funded over $265 million in new home loans and lent over $25 million in home equity lines of credit in 2020. Whitefish CU ranks within the top 1% of all credit unions in average loan and deposit balances.

“Reaching $2 billion in total assets is a testament to the continued support of our members,” said James Kenyon, president and CEO of Whitefish CU. “We reached this milestone much earlier than expected, and it was a direct result of our members looking to us for their financial needs. We are excited by the opportunities this growth represents as we look to expand our services in support of our members.”

Since it was first established in 1934, Whitefish CU has grown to become a trusted Northwestern Montana organization that is owned by more than 60,000 members. Within the last year alone, the credit union has expanded its field of membership to include membership eligibility to residents of Broadwater, Gallatin, Lewis and Clark, Missoula, and Ravalli counties. Whitefish CU employs more than 200 team members located across the credit union’s eight branch locations.

As Montana continues to see significant growth, Whitefish CU remains committed to supporting its communities and helping members do more with their money through its range of banking products and services. The full-service credit union offers everything from checking and savings accounts to credit cards, mortgages, and a variety of loans.
