Rep. Luetkemeyer will not seek re-election in 2024

Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., announced Thursday he will not run for re-election in 2024.

A member of the House Financial Services Committee since his first election to the House in 2009, Luetkemeyer has consistently focused on financial and regulatory issues affecting credit unions. Throughout his tenure, he introduced several pieces of legislation supported by the industry.

“Rep. Luetkemeyer has been a dedicated public servant who has prioritized the needs of financial institutions, small businesses, and communities in his legislative efforts,” said America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle. “We extend our gratitude for his longstanding support of credit unions and his willingness to work with us to strengthen the industry’s ability to improve the financial well-being of millions of Americans. We wish him and his family the best.”

Of note, Luetkemeyer introduced legislation to create a commission to lead the CFPB, to create a national data breach notification standard, and to prohibit the Small Business Administration (SBA) from providing direct business loans under the 7(a) loan program in 2022. He also strongly opposed implementation of the CECL (Current Expected Credit Loss) accounting standards, and worked together with credit union leaders to find common sense regulatory and legislative solutions on multiple issues.
