Searching for the next Herb Wegner Award winners

Herb Wegner Award

Each year, over 1,000 people gather in Washington, DC to celebrate individuals and programs that make an incredible difference in the credit union movement. The Herb Wegner Memorial Awards are considered the highest national honor in the credit union movement, and we are searching for next year’s awardees.

Herb Wegner served as CUNA President & CEO in the 1970’s and was a man of vision. He saw the credit union movement not as it was but as how it could be. And he was determined to make it that way. Wegner was viewed as a risk taker; many times, taking on an activity that seemed like a lost cause. In today’s credit union environment, Wegner would be out in front leading the charge on many issues facing the credit union movement. It is this type of leadership and impact that we honor every year through the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards.

Do you know people that are models of tireless dedication to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people”? Do you know of an organization or program that has had a significant impact on the credit union movement?

Get inspired by this list of past winners and think of an individual or organization/program that should join this elite group whose extraordinary efforts have put belief and purpose into action. Nominations are due June 30, 2025.

The Herb Wegner Memorial Awards help to invigorate passion for the credit union movement, and we hope you nominate those who inspire you to make a difference in the lives of our credit union members.
