Senate confirms Harper as NCUA Chairman
The Senate Wednesday confirmed Todd Harper to serve a full term as NCUA Board Chairman, in a 59 – 40 vote. The Senate Banking Committee in January earlier this year advanced Harper’s nomination in a 17-7 bipartisan vote, after meeting in October to discuss his nomination.
“Under Chairman Harper’s leadership, the NCUA can truly accelerate credit unions’ growth and better the way they serve their 130 million members,” stated NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger. “NAFCU congratulates Todd Harper on his confirmation to continue serving as NCUA Chairman.”
Harper was nominated by President Joe Biden in August 2021; his previous term on the NCUA Board ended in April of 2021 and he has been serving in a holdover capacity. If confirmed, Harper’s term would expire April 2027.
“We have, and will continue to, work with the NCUA and its leaders to push for meaningful regulatory change and engage in ways credit unions can grow and innovate,” added Berger.
