The consequences of the Big Box Bailout

Our fight against the Big Box Bailout bill is grounded in data. The Durbin Amendment has given us more than a decade’s worth showing that government price caps on interchange fees don’t work.

This week, we sent new research to members of Congress specifically highlighting the negative effects if the Big Box Bailout is enacted into law.

Despite claims from the bill’s sponsors, it has the potential to seriously harm American families, small businesses, and the card issuers they rely on – to the benefit of the nation’s largest retailers

The research found:

• Consumers would face limited access to unsecured credit via safe financial institutions like credit unions;
