What you missed on Monday at #GAC2024!

Monday at #GAC2024

If you thought you’d never see Jim Nussle in sunglasses and Converse All-Stars, strollin’ out to Queen’s “We Will Rock You” as his entrance music, then you were probably pretty surprised on Monday at America’s Credit Unions’ Governmental Affairs Conference.

At the first GAC under the banner of America’s Credit Unions, Nussle took the opportunity to introduce the new executive team for the post-merger organization. The team consists of Jill Tomalin, Executive Vice President; Carrie Hunt, Chief Advocacy Officer; Anthony Demangone, Chief Membership & Engagement Officer; Eddie Rivera, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer; Meghan Burris Small, Chief Communications & Marketing Officer; and Todd Spiczenski, Chief Association Services Officer.

The first keynote of the morning was Actor and Humanitarian Gary Sinise.

Sinise spoke about how how the veterans in his family made him appreciate those who serve and how playing Lt. Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump connected him to our country’s community of Wounded Warriors.

Volunteering for USO tours became a passion and eventually led to the creation of the Gary Sinise Foundation. The Foundation has many functions, including R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) – “building specially adapted smart homes for our most severely wounded heroes” and Snowball Express – “year-round programming and support for families that honors their fallen hero, encourages them to make new memories, and provides opportunities to connect with others who know what they’ve been through.”

The afternoon session included Dr. Jen Golbeck speaking on AI and the positives and negatives for credit unions.

America’s Credit Unions’ Chief Advocacy Officer Carrie Hunt had a spirited discussion with NCUA Chairman Todd Harper about credit unions and regulatory priorities.

The afternoon breakout sessions included topics like fintech, the economy, interchange, key management areas, as well as multiple sessions on AI.

Have a great Tuesday at #GAC2024!
