Billings CEO receives Professional of the Year Award from Montana’s credit unions

BILLINGS, MT (June 1, 2015) — Tom Boos, president and CEO of Billings Federal Credit Union was recently named the 2015 Montana Credit Union Professional of the Year.

Boos has worked at the credit union for more than 30 years and is regarded as a thoughtful person who leads by example.

George Balich is vice president of information technology at the credit union and worked with Boos for nearly three decades.

“Over the years, we have gotten a little grayer, but managed to stay ahead of the game,” he said. “The one constant I have seen is his never-ending quest for knowledge. He is the ‘Google’ of the credit union world.”

Balich said Boos is always available to staff and management and maintains a warm, open-door policy despite his busy schedule. “I frequently see him visiting with members; not too many customers can walk into a business and ask to see the owner or president without an appointment.”

Boos has served on the Montana Credit Union League Board; CUsource Board Member; March of Dimes; Prevention of Elder Abuse; Optimist Club; and Chamber of Commerce. He is active on the national front too attending the annual Governmental Affairs Conference, serving on the State Issues subcommittee, a member of the Filene Research Council, and was in the first Filene i3 class.

Balich was quick to note one short-coming.

“The only flaw in Tom’s character and I hate to bring this up, but it’s so glaring of a poor choice is life; he is an avid Minnesota Vikings fan,” he said with a chuckle.

Boos is described by Bernie Neibauer, Montana Credit Union League Board Chairman, as a brilliant thinker and a bold leader who is never afraid to stick his neck out to ask the tough questions.

Tracie Kenyon, president and CEO of the Montana Credit Union Network, said the credit union system in Montana is lucky to have a person with Boos’ commitment and caliber.

“I can’t think of anyone more deserving or qualified to be named Montana Credit Union Professional of the Year,” she said.
