Former NFL player and CNN hero to speak at 2014 Iowa Credit Union Convention in Dubuque

DUBUQUE, IA (September 15, 2014) — The annual Iowa Credit Union Convention, themed “Unite for Good,” will take place in Dubuque at the Grand River Center September 17-19. More than 500 credit union CEOs, directors, executive staff, guests and exhibitors are expected to attend this year’s conference.

Governor Terry Branstad and the Mayor Pro Tem Karla Braig will welcome Iowa Credit Union Convention attendees on Wednesday evening. 2013 CNN Hero, Chad Pregracke, will open Convention on Thursday morning and will share how he and his team have removed more than seven million pounds of garbage from U.S. rivers. Former NFL star, ESPN Analyst and cancer survivor, Merril Hoge will speak on Friday about how he overcame obstacles and continued to find a way to make it to the NFL.

In addition, the Iowa Credit Union League’s Iowa Innovation Group participants will kick off Friday’s opening keynote session by sharing their new ideas and prototypes that could be implemented for the benefit of Iowa credit unions.

Fifteen diverse education breakout sessions will cover topics relevant to the credit union industry, including innovations in compliance technology, succession planning, increasing loan growth and EMV chip-card cards among others.

Convention attendees are invited to attend the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s (ICUF) Benefit Night on Thursday, September 18, for a Mississippi river boat cruise.
