Genisys Credit Union Walks to End Hunger
WATERFORD, MI (April 28, 2014) — Genisys Credit Union, which provides services to anyone who lives or works in the Lower Peninsula, is helping make a difference by supporting the Lighthouse of Oakland County’s 32nd Annual Hunger Walk/Run. The event is to be held on Saturday, May 3rd at Oakland Community College Highland Lakes Campus. Event registration will begin at 8:00 AM with the walk starting at 10:00 AM.
“Genisys has been sponsoring the Hunger Walk/Run for many years,” said Jackie Buchanan, President and CEO. “It’s a great community-building event, since all of the support is given back locally.”
This is Lighthouse’s largest event to raise awareness about hunger in our community and raise funds to help feed families over the summer months. Currently, 1 in 4 children in Oakland County live in homes that are food challenged.
“Lighthouse of Oakland County works everyday helping low income families in Oakland County to face the challenges of hunger, under and unemployment, and financial insecurity” said Priscilla Perkins, Lighthouse of Oakland County Chief Development Officer. “Our work focuses on helping families to find ways to improve their ability to become less vulnerable to crisis and find their way to self-sufficient stable lives. We are proud to work with community partners like Genisys to help make families’ lives better.”
An addition to this year’s event, event goers can bring five non-perishable food items (cans, pasta, cereal, etc.) to be entered into the raffle featuring awesome prizes for all ages! All donations will help support Lighthouse of Oakland County’s year-round food pantry, which provides assistance to families in 25 communities throughout Oakland County.
