Help set a new Guinness World Record at the SDCCU Super Shred Event on July 25

Public is invited to bring an unlimited amount of documents to be shred for free at Qualcomm Stadium

SAN DIEGO, CA (July 2, 2015) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®) San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is preparing to set a new Guinness World Record® at the upcoming SDCCU Super Shred Event. The public is invited to bring an unlimited amount of documents to be shred for free at the event from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at Qualcomm® Stadium in the northeast parking lot, located at 9449 Friars Road, San Diego.

SDCCU is planning to shred the Guinness World Record for the most paper collected in 24 hours. In July 2014, SDCCU organized the effort to collect and shred over 422,000 pounds of paper, setting a new Guinness World Record® for the most paper collected in 24 hours. During the event, 50 trucks were used to collect the paper. This year, SDCCU is aiming to collect and shred more than 500,000 pounds of paper!

“SDCCU needs the help of the entire community to make this our biggest event ever! We encourage everyone to bring their old personal documents to the stadium for shredding on July 25,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “We are happy to provide this free, and much needed, service to the community. With a greater prevalence of fraud and identity theft in recent years, it’s important to provide San Diegans with an easy opportunity to dispose of sensitive data. The SDCCU Super Shred Event provides just that as well as allows everyone in San Diego the opportunity to protect the environment and be a part of history!”

The public is invited to bring all of their old documents to Qualcomm Stadium on July 25. Shred-It®, the world’s leading document destruction and recycling company, will be onsite to shred documents at no charge. Paper documents should be removed from binders prior to shredding; however, staples and paperclips are okay to be shredded. The first 1,000 guests who take advantage of the SDCCU Super Shred Event will receive a free gift. Plus, donations will be accepted for the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA.

SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events in 2007 and has since collected, shredded and recycled more than 1,200,000 pounds of documents at no charge, saving over 10,000 trees (every 120 pounds shredded represents one saved tree).
