NCUA Holds Clothing Drive for New Jersey Credit Unions, Delivers Boxes of Clothes and Canned Goods to New Jersey Credit Union League for Distribution

ALEXANDRIA, Va. and HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. – Buddy Gill, Senior Strategic Communications and External Relations Advisor at NCUA, dropped off a generous donation of clothes and food items that the NCUA has been collecting from staff at its Alexandria, Va. office for the past week to help aid the hurricane relief efforts in New Jersey.

Last week, after news of Hurricane Sandy’s major effects on New Jersey broke, NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz immediately contacted the New Jersey Credit Union League with plans to collect clothing for those in need.

The agency collected clothing and shoes, size infant to adult, and non-perishable food from its staff that was delivered to the NJCUL office in Hightstown this afternoon on a 20-foot U-Haul truck the Gill himself personally drove up to the League from the NCUA office.

NJCUL staff also collected clothing, blankets, pillows, and canned goods, and Rutgers FCU also made a donation of clothing and food to the lot.

These donations will be available for credit union employees, volunteers, members, and communities affected by Hurricane Sandy.

New Jersey credit unions that are interested in distributing these donations to people and communities in need can contact the League to coordinate a pick-up date and time next week.

“We are so grateful to the agency. NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz very quickly reached out to us to extend help, and she and NCUA delivered,” said NJCUL President/CEO Paul Gentile. “I couldn’t believe how packed NCUA’s truck was with clothing, water and dry goods. They did an amazing job. It took the League staff over an hour to unload because there was so much,” said NJCUL President/CEO Paul Gentile. “We will now quickly get these goods out to those most impacted by the storm. It will bring relief to displaced families. On behalf of all New Jersey credit unions, we thank NCUA for their extraordinary effort.”

Gentile offered a special thanks to NCUA’s Buddy Gill for personally driving the truck to NJCUL’s headquarters in Hightstown, N.J.
